Early Life & Biography

On July 18, 1979, Richard Morales Jr was born to a Puerto Rican father and Jamaican mother. He spent part of his childhood in the Bronx, New York. However, his parents divorced when he was ten years old. His father later went back to Puerto Rico while Gunplay. His mother and younger brother settled in Carol City, Located in South Florida. Gunplay dropped out of high school at the age of 15 after being told to repeat ninth grade.  He started using and selling cocaine after dropping out of school, and he spent $600-700 a week on drugs and thousands after his record deal.

He could have faced life imprisonment if convicted on both accounts, according to his attorney.  He was later released on a bond of $150,000 and placed on house arrest in connection to armed robbery, which took place at a Miami business. He was later released from house arrest in January 2013.  His trial began on the charges of armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and aggravated assault stemming from when he pulled a gun on his accountant in April 2012.

However, the case was dismissed due to the victim’s refusal to cooperate with the authorities. Gunplay has found himself in controversies with his swastika tattoo, and he has given differing explanations concerning it.
