Grigor was born in 1991 to a sporting family, and his father was a tennis coach and his mother, a sports teacher, and a former volleyball player. He started from age three and turned pro at age 16. He joined the Sanchez-Casal academy under Emilio Sánchez and Pato Álvarez. After a year, he left for Paris to train at the Tennis Academy of Patrick Mouratoglou.
He had always shared a good relationship with his parents. His parents were his motivation to start the sport. His father was his first coach, and his mother handed him his first racket.
