Gregory Raymond Kelly was born on 17th December 1968 in Garden City, New York, in the United States of America. His father’s name is Raymond W Kelly and his mother is called Veronica Kelly.
Kelly was raised alongside his brother Jim Kelly. Kelly’s father was a cop and he at one time served as the commissioner of police of New York for two terms (1992-1994 and 2002-2013). Greg completed his elementary and high school education in Garden City, the place where he also grew up.
Upon completion of high school, Greg moved to Fordham University in New York City where he studied Political Science, and obtained his B.A. in the year 1991.
Upon leaving college, Kelly followed his father’s footsteps and enrolled in the U.S. Marines. He spent the next nine years in active and reserve duty. He left active military service in the late 90’s and subsequently started his journalism career.

Upon completing his university, Kelly joined the U.S. Marines where he was embedded with the U.S. Army’s 3rd Infantry Division, 2nd Brigade during the 2003 invasion.

His love for journalism started way back in college where he acted as on-air reporter for the Fordham university’s radio station ‘WEUV’.
