Geoffrey was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, to his American- Armenian father, George Zakarian, who was a musician and his mother Viola, who was a Polish-American mother. He also has a brother, George, and sister, Virginia. In 1977, Geoffrey got graduated from Burncoat High School. He also secured a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Worcester State University. He later went to France, where he contemplated on what he wanted to become in his life. Due to his deep interest and passion for food and cooking, he decided to become a chef.

In 1990, Geoffrey joined a restaurant named “44” located in midtown Manhattan, at the post of executive chef. Later in 1996, he was recruited to supervise a coffee bar division along with David Brody. He then worked for the Blue Door, Delano Hotel, Miami. In 1998, he was hired in Patroon restaurant in Manhattan as an executive chef. In 2000, he got a fabulous opportunity to work with Allan Passard, who had been a well-known French chef at the 3-star Arpège restaurant, Paris.
Geoffrey is also fond of writing since his early days. In 2006, he wrote his first book as “Geoffrey Zakarian’s Town / Country.” The book got very popular among people and became one of the best sellers of 2006, as rated by The NY Times.
