When Geno was seven years old, they immigrated with his family from Montella in Southern Italy to Norristown, and he spent his childhood there. When his family immigrated, he didn’t speak English Auriemma was tutored in 2^nd grade at St. Francis of Assisi by John, who was his classmate. The decision to hire Auriemma came as part of the university’s commitment to better fund women’s sports. He was the final interviewer most of the other candidates were highly qualified.
