Gavin Shane DeGraw was born on 4 February 1977 in South Fallsburg, New York, the United States, to Wayne DeGraw and Lynne DeGraw. He has two siblings, a brother named Joey DeGraw and sister Neeka DeGraw. His brother is also a singer and songwriter, and his sister works in a bar restaurant. Unfortunately, in 2017, his mother passed away due to cancer, and later his father passed away in 2020 due to an illness.
He won a music scholarship to study in Ithaca College, but he would frequently miss classes to stay back in dorms and write songs, due to which he dropped out after the first semester. Later, when he moved to Boston, he went to the prestigious college, Berklee College of Music.
