In 1979 he also submitted his cartoons in a local Seattle newspaper under the title “Nature’s Way.” His cartoons were published every week.

They renamed it ‘the far side. It made its first appearance on January 1, 1980. The far side was published for 15 years, the final strip being published on January 1, 1995. Larson’s cartoons were published in many collections like greetings cards, animated versions produced for television and calendars.

In 1994 Larson felt that he does not want to be completely irrelevant by being repetitive in his themes, so he retired when he was 44 years old.
