Garry Kasparov was born on 13th April 1963 in Baku Azerbaijan. He was born by a Jewish father and an Armenian mother. His father was called Kim Moiseyevich Weinstein while his mother was called Klara Shagenovna Kasparov. His surname was Weinstein, but after the death of his father, he adopted the surname of his mother, Kasparov. He came to know about chess when his parents had a problem concerning it, and he was able to solve, and from there, his passion for learning more about chess began.

He attended the Young Pioneer Palace.  He also attended a chess school training at Mikhail Botvinnik’s. At the age of 13, he won the junior championship.
