Ricky Donnell, better known as Freeway Rick Ross, was born in Tyler, Texas, on 26th January 1960. His father, Sonny Ross, used to work as an army cook while his mother, Annie Mae Mauldin, used sharecropping to earn a living. At the age of 3, his family moved to Los Angeles, California, where he grew up and got his early education. In Los Angeles, he schooled at Susan Miller Dorsey High School.

While in school, he used to be a member of their tennis team, where he was doing very well. Unfortunately, he couldn’t get any college scholarship because of his illiteracy and, he started selling drugs to earn a living. At the age of 19, he saw crack cocaine first time something he didn’t believe could be a drug as it looked different from others he had been dealing with.

Personal Life

After being introduced to cocaine as a teenager, he made it his career and bought several properties at Harbor Freeway in Los Angeles in the early 1980s. By the time, his drug revenue was estimated to be around $900 million making around $300 million from this. A task force was established in 1985 to tackle his drug empire, and, by 1989, they got a break and captured him.

He pleaded guilty to all charges and got a ten-year sentence. The sentence was reduced to 4 years after cooperating with law enforcement officers in catching his accomplices in the police department.  In 1996 more charges were leveled on him and got a life a sentence. He appealed his conviction, and his sentence was reduced to 20 years. On 29th September, Rick Ross became a freeman when he was released from prison.

After prison life, Rick started writing, and his memoir was released on 17th June 2014. Rick married his wife, Mychosia Nightingale, and together are blessed with two children, a son, Brian, and a daughter Jordan.  Today he happily lives with his family in South California.
