So when the call came from Bachman, Turner joined the band quickly and started playing the original material by then.

The lead vocalist of the group at starting was Chad Allan, but he soon departed after their first Album. Then Turner stepped in as a full-time vocalist and bassist. He was the lead singer of nine of the Brave Belt II album songs. When there was talk for the Brave Belt III album, the band came with the name Bachman-Turner Overdrive, and hence they changed their name.

The band enjoyed its peak time of popularity between 1973 and 1976, and in this era, the band released five Top 40 albums and six US Top 40 singles. Later the Bachman Left BTO in late 1977 and then Turner switch his genre as he went from bass to rhythm guitar so that the new vocalist Jim Clench could join. After some supporting tours and two albums, this version of the band quit in 1980.

Later Turner and Bachman came together again in 1981, and they released another album, On Strike. The BTO has formed still for 1984 collection and some subsequent tours. Turner has written most of the BTO songs, and he also wrote and sang the lead on “Heartaches” in 1979 it was the only BTO single to be charted in the post-Randy-Bachman era of the band.

Later Turner reunited with Randy Bachman and recorded a new self-titled album, which was released then in September 2010, and it was titled, “Bachman & Turner.” The original idea of creating the music was of Randy, but then he contacted Fred and asked him to give his voice, which was then liked very much by Randy.

To support their only Album, they embarked on a 2010-11 world tour and did many BTO songs in their live set. The world tour opened at the Sweden Rock Festival in June 2010. The BTO songs just won’t be the same with out Fred’s growling singing, like 40 miles of bad gravel road up to your favorite summer cabin.. Love him, I hope he is well Id love to see him in Vancouver this September
