Floyd Landis was born on 14th of October in 1975, in Farmersville, Pennsylvania, USA. He is the second-oldest child of his parents; Paul and Arlene Landis. Landis grew up in the village of Farmersville in the West Earl Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

The bright young boy then graduated from Conestoga Valley High School in 1994 in the same town. Landis was brought up in a devout Mennonite family and community, and ended up using a bike for the first time when he and his friend went fishing. From this day on, Landis fell in love with cycling.

In the 2004 tour, he led Armstrong and a few of his main rivals over the final climb of stage 17 that he gained the attention of another late legend, Robin Williams. Later on, Landis left U.S. Postal after receiving a better contract offer from the Phonak squad.

He finished 9th in the 2005 Tour de France which inevitably led him to a strong start in the 2006 season; with wins in the Amgen Tour of California and the prestigious Paris-Nice. This gave him 52 points in the UCI Pro Tour individual competition, starting him off in first place in 2006.

His performance up to stage 16 in the 2006 Tour and the following stage 17 were commendable given his hip ailment, Osteonecrosis. He rode the 2006 Tour in constant pain and was medically approved to take cortisone for the injury. However, he was stripped of this victory in September 20th, 2006.

On July 27th, 2006, the Phonak Cycling Team announced his urine sample tested positive for an unusually high ratio of testosterone hormone. Landis denied the doping allegations but was suspended and released from his team even after the backup sample showed the same results.

At the time, a controversial incident happened, where his close friend committed suicide and also happened to know about Landis’ doping. It is not known whether that knowledge caused the suicide.

Landis was suspended for two years and tried to make a comeback in the sport which didn’t go so well. He later opened a cannabis shop in Colorado in mid-2016 after the legalisation of the drug.
