Feliciano Sergio Sabates, Jr. was born on September 9, 1945, in Camagüey, Cuba, to his parents Dr. Feliciano Sabates and Maria Tavio. He is the oldest of his six other siblings. His family founded several successful businesses such as import and export, insurance sales, service stations, jewelry, and others.
Sabates completed his schooling from a military school in Camagüey. At the age of 15, he and his family shifted to Miami, United States.
Felix was married to his wife, Carolyn. However, the couple divorced after being together for a couple of years. Together, they are the parents of three children and six grandchildren. His daughter Mimi is married to former NHRA driver Doug Herbert.
