Engelbert Humperdinck, whose real name is Arnold George Dorsey, was born in Madras, British India (which is now known as Chennai, India) on2 May 1936. He was born to parents Mervyn Dorsey and Olive Dorsey. His father was a non-commissioned officer in the British Army at the time. He has nine siblings, and his family moved to Leicester, England, when he was just ten years old. By the early 1950’s he was playing saxophone in Nightclubs.  His impression of popular American singer and actor Jerry Lewis was spot on, which led to his friends calling him “Gerry Dorsey.” He worked under his name for almost ten years.

He was then called into the British Army Royal Corps of Signals during the mid-1950s. After finishing that, he recorded his first song, “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again,” in 1958, which was with Decca records.

Engelbert Humperdinck married popular English actress Patricia Healey on the 18th of April, 1964. Together they have four children- Scott, Jason, Louise, and Bradley. Two women were able to successfully sue him in paternity lawsuits back in the 1970s and ’80s. When it comes to his religious views, he is a Roman Catholic. In the 1970’s he recorded songs like “We Made It Happen,” “Sweetheart,” “Another Time, Another Place,” and “Too Beautiful to Last.” In 1972, he starred in the TV series, “Engelbert with The Young Generation.”

He soon started performing quite frequently at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas.  In 1976, his song “After the Lovin” became a part of the Top 10 list in the U.S. charts and was even nominated for a Grammy Award.  The song was even awarded the “most played jukebox record of the year” award. The album “After the Lovin” even became a Double Platinum hit. In the 1980’s he performed up to 200 concerts a year, while also making appearances at the Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas.

In 2003, he recorded the album, “Always Hear the Harmony: The Gospel Sessions,” which was very well received and was even nominated for a Grammy.  In 2017, he released the album “The Man I Want To Be,” which included covers from artists like Ed Sheeran and Bruno Mars.   1. after watching his numerous utube video’s I find THE HILTON LV 1982 to be very best performance, show. he was at the top of his game, handsome sexy hunk that sang his heart out..the entire taped show is awesome. I watch it repeatedly! yep, I do. just can’t get enough of this stud. all the songs on this show are fantastic. he’s such a fantastic performer! just plug it in and you will agree…
    like where was I in 1982? oh yea, running my business, so didn’t take the time to enjoy life.

  2. I was fortunate to spend an hour chatting to Mr H, 5 years ago. He had volunteered to help me with an online charity auction for a child with a brain tumour. I found him to be a delightful, gentle and kind human being. Mr H and I had a mutual friend so, I had a pretty good idea he was going to be a true gentleman. I wish Mr H and Pat much improved health and happiness. God bless them both.

  4. I have been to two of Engelbert’s concerts, talked to him on a radio station and 17 Dec 2021 talked to him on his Meet and Greet special for his Christmas program which was absolutely wonderful. I have been following his music for about seven years now. Engelbert is the best singer in the world with so many wonderful romantic songs. He is such a kind and caring person with a heart of gold. God blessed him with a wonderful voice and I truly believe God blessed our Engelbert with his gifts to heal the world through his songs, poetry and kind heart. I feel like I have known him all my life and I am 78 years old. Engelbert is that way, he makes one feel so comfortable and we (his fans) knows he loves and appreciates his fans.   5. I personally have never met Mr. Engelbert Humperdinck (real name, Arnold George Dorsey). However just by hearing and listening to his songs, he has a heavenly, lovely, romantic natural born voice. Watching him sing, he is naturally gentleman in all ways. His songs and his voice are gift of love and from God.

    Listening to his music and watching him sing automatically changes internal mood and passion. It gives the true feeling of calming, captivating, hypnotizing, loving or mesmerizing and peaceful mood. Depending on the beat of the song, it carries and makes you feel happy or sad deeply down.
