Eddie Van Halen was born on January 26, 1955 in Amsterdam, Netherlands to Jan van Halen and Eugenia van Halen.
His family later moved to California. Eddie and he, along with his brother Alex van Halen started to learn piano at the age of six. Both the brothers have been playing musical instruments from a very young age. He went to Long Beach City College, where he won first place in the annual piano competition from 1964 to 1967.
Later, Eddie started learning how to play the electric guitar. As a teenager, he used to lock himself in his room and practice guitar for hours. He and his brother formed a music band, “The Broken Combs,” along with three other of his friends. They used to perform at the Hamilton Elementary School in Pasadena at lunchtime.
