Earl was born on March 29, 1955, and he was born in Tyler, Texas. His father’s name was Bert “B.C.” Campbell and his mother’s name was Ann Campbell. He had ten other siblings, and his father died when he was just 11 years old. Earl began playing football when he was in fifth grade, and he then played as a kicker and later moved to linebacker in sixth grade. He did this after watching Dick Butkus, and he modeled his playing style. Ann, his mother, persuaded him not to play football in high school, but he didn’t stop.

After school, he was heavily recruited by then; he narrowed his choices to Houston, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Baylor. He finally went to Texas, and he attended the University of Texas at Austin. He played college football there for the team, Texas Longhorn, from the year 1974 to 1977.

When he was a freshman, he played in 11 games, and he rushed for 928 yards and did six touchdowns on the 162 attempts. He was also awarded the Heisman Memorial Trophy because he was the most outstanding college, and he was the player of the University of Texas to win this award.

He was also the first recipient of the Davey O’Brien Memorial Trophy, and it was awarded to the most outstanding player that was in Southwest Conference. He then ended his college career with 40 rushing touchdowns, 4,443 rushing yards in total 40 games, and four-season.

When Earl was in college, he was also a member of an honorary men’s service organization, which was then known as Texas Cowboys.  He is still active in the University of Texas athletics, and he also serves as the special assistant for the football team. He also founded the Earl Campbell Meat Products, Inc. in 1990 and it manufactures and also sells Earl Campbell’s Smoked Sausage. He and his associates also opened the restaurant in the year 1999 on Sixth Street in Austin, which was known as Earl Campbell’s Lone Star BBQ, and the restaurant was then closed in 2001.

  3. Mr Campbell I’m not a sports person since 2003 I lost my husband we watched all the time together.
