Dorian Andrew Mientjez Yates was born in Walmley, Warwickshire, England, on 19 April 1962. When he was thirteen years old, his father died due to a heart attack. Yates was interested in bodybuilding since he was a teenager and trained at local gyms.
After the death of his father, Yates’ family moved to Birmingham, UK, where he started working out and thought of making bodybuilding his full-time career.
Yates is married to fitness model Glauce “Gal” Ferreira, who was the 2007 IFBB World Bodyfitness Champion and has won several IFBB South American Bodyfitness events. Together they are the parents of a son, Lewis, who works with his father and has taken bodybuilding as his career.
