David Harold Yost was born on January 7, 1969, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the U.S. As a child, he was involved in gymnastics and won several national gymnastics competitions all over the United States including the state championships in Iowa and Montana.
Yost completed his schooling from Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton, California, in 1987. Later, he graduated from Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, with a Bachelor of Arts in communication and dramatic arts in 1991.
