David was born on the 12^th of April 2000 to Kevin Hogg and Rebecca Boldrick in Los Angeles, CA. His father was a Federal Bureau of Investigation while his mother is a teacher in Broward County Public Schools, which is situated in Broward County, Florida. A 19-yr old former student entered Building 12 with a semi-automatic rifle and started shooting after pulling the fire alarm. At that time, David was in class (his AP environmental science class). He immediately told the teacher that the pop sound they heard sounded like gunshots.

Junior and other senior students thought of exiting the building, but they were instructed to go back to class by a janitor. Hogg is always grateful to this janitor as he says he is the one who saved their lives. This is because; they wanted to run to the direction of the shooter. A culinary arts teacher then hid them in a closet.

After learning that the shooting was taking place in his school from the social media, he decided to leave footage behind just in case they die. He, therefore, recorded the scene, and at the same time, he interviewed the other students he was within the closet and had planned to leave the recording behind in case they didn’t survive the shooting. He was in constant contact with his sister named Lauren Hogg and was a freshman student at that time. Luckily they were evacuated from the scene by SWAT one hour later, and he was reunited with his father and sister.
