Nixon is the only child of Walter Elmer Nixon Jr., who was a radio journalist from Texas, and Anne Elizabeth, who was an actress originally from Chicago, who died in 2013. She credits her mother, who brings her into the theatre. Her grandparents were a great devotee to Lord Jesus.
