Christopher Darden was born on 7 April 1956 in Richmond, California, and is the fourth child out of eight children of his parents. He attended high school at John .F.Kennedy High School, where he graduated for his diploma in 1974. Christopher then attended San Jose State University for his college degree.
At San Jose, he was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, a black American fraternity, and he also participated in Track and field. In 1977 he graduated for his B.S in Criminal Justice. He attended the University of California, Hastings, for his Juris Doctorate, which he graduated in 1980.
Christopher married a television executive Marcia Carter in 1997. The couple has welcomed three children, two of whom are daughters and one son Tiffany Darden included. Darden has two other children from the other two previous relationships. He was once speculated to have a sexual relationship with Marcia Clack, which both denied.
