Chris was born on a corn farm in Sarnia, Ontario, to parents Roger and Eleanor and saw the moon landing of Apollo 11 on TV at age 9. He was a sky instructor before he became a test pilot for the Air Force. He attended White Oaks Secondary School in Oakville, Ontario, and graduated his senior years from Milton District High School. Right after high school, he joined the Air Force.
