Carter Beauford’s musical career began at the age of 9, when he joined his first band. He became interested in drums after seeing the Buddy Rich Concert where his father bought tickets. This was while he was at the age of 3 years after which his father bought him a tin drum set with paper heads.
Beauford joined Secrets, a Richmond Jazz fusion band which also was composed of several professional instrument players. While they continued beig featured in several performances, he got an opportunity to be featured in Dave Matthews music. He performed in the demo and paved way to him joining the group of Dave Matthews Band.
