Calle 13 is a Puerto Rican band who was formed by two stepbrothers, René Pérez Joglar and Eduardo José Cabra Martínez. The band has three members: René as lead singer/songwriter; Visitante as multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and beat producer; Ileana (PG-13) as the back vocals.

Inception
Calle 13 was founded in the year 2003 by René Pérez Joglar and Eduardo José Cabra Martínez, who were stepbrothers. Eduardo’s parents are from Cuba, while René’s parents are from Puerto Rico. They used to live in a neighborhood in the South Bronx called Consejo.
René Pérez Joglar is mainly known as Residente which means “Resident” in English. The name Residente was given to René because of his love for Puerto Rico. Eduardo José Cabra Martínez is known as Visitante which means “Visitor” in English.
The formation of this band was not a planned one. The two brothers were hanging out in René’s house and they started to play some music. They got discovered by Elias De Leon, who is a famous Puerto Rican music producer.
The song which got them recognized was called “Querido F.B.I.” which means “Dear F.B.I.” in English, and it was released in the year 2004, and it is still popular even after so many years since its release.
The band has released 6 studio albums since then and their debut album was released in the year 2005, and the title of this album was called “Residente o Visitante”. At first, Calle 13 did not have the resources to make a music video or album. So they decided to put their songs on YouTube just in time for them to reach an audience and gain recognition as artists. With time and improvement of melodies, they decided that it was finally time take a risk by contacting White Lion Records about signing with the company- which lead them straight into success!
Their first single is Se vale to-to. The music video was produced entirely by René, who also funded it himself for the White Lion study. This song turned out quite popular and brought a good degree of recognition to the group.
The band released their first album in 2006 titled Calle 13 which include some of the hit songs such as Atrevete-te-te which later became the banner for this band in Puerto Rican and making it get much popularity and recognition in the international music industry. Due to this album, they won 3 Latin Grammy Awards in the best urban music album, best short version video and best new artist.
In 2007, the band released their second album known as Residente O Visitor. This album featured some hit songs such as Something Meaningful and Tango of Sin. The 3rd album was in the year 2008 known as Los Detras Venme which became a great success with hit songs such as Nobody Like You and La Perla.
Their 4th album was in the year 2010 known as Entre Los Que Queran where their main focus was in creating social awareness. Their fourth album was a great success which received nominations in 10 categories and 9 of them winning the award. In 2014, they released their 5th album known as MultiViral which focused on media manipulation and its effects on people. There was a temporal cessation of the band as announced by Resindente in 2015 as each member wanted to pursue their personal interests.
