Gawen DeAngelo “Bonzi” Wells was born on September 28th 1976, in Munchie, Indiana, in the United States of America. His parents are Gawen Wells and Christian Scaife Coleman. Wells attended Muncie Central and Ball State from 1994 to 1998, where he was actively involved in his career while still in college.

During his all four years at Ball State, Wells managed to lead the conference in steals. He finished his collegial career as the Mid-American Conference all-time career records in remarkable points and steals.

When Wells was a young child, he would go to watch the game as just a cheerleader and it was during one of the days when his uncle who happened to be the coach picked him from the side-lines. From then on, he became one of the best players and he would play at Muncie Central High School where he attended and went on to play at Ball State University.

After his times in college, Wells took the game into a professional career and this saw him playing as a shooting guard /small forward for Portland Trail Blazers between 1998-2003, and later, he would play for Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets, New Orleans Hornets, Shanzi Zhongyu and Capitanes de Arecibo.

Bonzi however had his share of on and off the court incidents. He was one time at Blazers suspended for two games for publicly cursing at his coach after being taken out of a game. In a separate incident, Bonzi was fined for making an obscene gesture to a fan in a loss during a match.

Wells has made remarkable achievements during his career. Some of his remarkable include being named the BSN Champion in 2010, NCAA season steals leader in 1998, 2x Mac Player of the year in 1996, 3x first-team all-MAC 1996-1998. He was also listed in No. 42 retires by Ball State Cardinals.
