Leslie Hope was born on May 29, 1903, in Eltham, London, United Kingdom. His father, William Henry Hope, was a talented stonemason, and his mother, Avis Townes, was a singer mainly into opera. When Bob Hope was four years old, he immigrated with his family to the United States and settled in Cleveland, Ohio. He had six brothers, producer Jack Hope, businessman Ivor Hope, George Hope, actor James Hope, and Frederick Hope, but most of them died.
Bob Hope was grown and raised in Cleveland, where he attended the Boys’ Industrial School and went to a dance school later.

Then, Bob married the singer Dolores Hope. Bob and Dolores adopted two sons and two daughters, Anthony J. Hope and actor William Kelly Francis Hope, Eleanora Hope, and producer Linda Hope. Dolores Hope also died in 2011.
