Arlo Davy Guthrie was born on 10^th July 1947 in Coney Island, Brooklyn, in New York City. His father was Woody Guthrie, a folk singer and a composer while his mother was Marjorie Mazia Guthrie. His mother was a professional dancer. His father later died in 1967 from Huntington disease. He has a sister who is a record producer.
