Kim Renard Nazel was born on 17th June 1965 in Compton, California, in the US. His father was Joseph Nazel Jr., popularly known as Skippy, who worked as an author and also a radio host. His mother was a piano teacher and a musician who must have inspired him a lot to his music career. His parents encouraged him to play football when he was young in order to keep him away from the gangs around them and also took him to catholic schools.

Nazel’s music career began when he was still in High School as he used to sell mixtapes he made in school. He started taking the name DJ Prince since then. After high school, he started working at Del Amo Mall luggage store, and the owner, Sam Nassif, asked him to DJ a party he held at his community. He already had some experience and performed several weekends, which turned out a success making Nassif invest more in that place. Nassif was the one who funded Nazel to record his first single, Strange Life.
Prince started working with Bobby Jimmy & the Critters in 1984, and that same year, he produced J.J Fad’s hit single under the name Supersonic. N.W.A was founded in 1986, Nazel being one of the founders but left in 1988 when Ice Cube came back, and there seemed to be some disagreements.
