Anne Burrell was born on September 21, 1969, in Cazenovia, New York to Marlene Burrell who had a flower shop in Cazenovia. Anne Burrell studied in Canisius College in Buffalo from where she did her graduation in English and communications in the year 1991.
Thereafter she attended Culinary Institute of America from where she graduated with a degree in Associate in Occupational Studies in 1996. She also studied in the Italian Institute for Foreigners in Asti, Italy.

On returning to the US, she joined Felidia, a restaurant owned by celebrity chef Lidia Bastianich who specialised in Italian-American cuisine.
Anne Burrell worked there as a sous chef. Later she became a chef at Savoy, a small restaurant. Her next assignment was teaching at the Institute of Culinary Education. She was called by Lidia Bastianich’s son Joseph Bastianich to work in his restaurant as a chef for Italian Wine Merchant, their Wine store in New York.
