Andrew spade was born on 24 December 1962 in Birmingham, Michigan, U.S, and he is the second born in a family of three brothers. His family later moved to Arizona when he was nine, where he attended Arizona state university. He and his friend founded Spade and Hannawel, an advertising firm during their college days, which was later named one of Arizona’s top 10 new companies in 1987.

Andy was married to designer Kate Brosnahan, who was professionally known as Kate spade since 1994, and the couple had one daughter.
