Zaza Pachulia was born as Zaur Pachulia, on 10 February 1984, in Tbilisi, Georgia, in a middle-class family. During his teen, he grew up to be very tall, unlike his other relatives. After a few years, he developed a passion for basketball and joined his University team. He was approximately 6 feet, 8 inches tall when he was only 13 years old. He was scouted by Ülkerspor, which is a Turkish basketball team during his early days. Soon, he became the member of the Georgian junior national basketball team and captained the team on various occasions.

Zaza was scouted by the Turkish team Ülkerspor during his teen days. In 2003, he was drafted by Orlando Magic in the 2nd round of the same. Soon, he wasted traded to Milwaukee Bucks in 2004-05 season, and in the same year, he scored an average of 6.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game playing as a substitute.
In 2005, he signed a contract with Atlanta Hawks and became their starting center. He scored an average of 11.7 points per game with 7.9 rebounds. The nickname knew him of Balboa during his reign at the Atlanta Hawks. In 2011, he signed a deal with Galatasaray of the Turkish Basketball League and soon returned to the Hawks within a year. During the 2015-16 season, he was traded to Dallas Mavericks and made his debut for the team against Phoenix Suns making a 111-95 win.
The breakthrough in his career came when he signed a deal with the Golden State Warriors in 2016. He opened the season with 15 points and 14 rebounds with a 117-101 win over Brooklyn Nets.
