Reba was born on March 28, 1955, in McAlester, Oklahoma. Her mother, Jacqueline (née Smith; b. November 6, 1926) was a school teacher who wished to be a country musician. She taught her children how to sing. Reba learned to play the guitar and write songs. Reba, her brother, Pake and younger sister, Susie formed a vocal group: “Singing McEntire’s”. Alice, the older sister, did not join. The group sang in rodeos and made a name in “The Ballad of John McEntire”. Their father, Clark Vincent McEntire (November 30, 1927 – October 23, 2014) won the World Champion Steer ropers (1957, 1958, and 1961).

Reba graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University (1976). She sang locally when she was hired at National Rodeo, Oklahoma City. There she met Red Steagall who helped Reba to establish her country-music career in Nashville, Tennessee.

He asked Reba to select her songs: Ray Price’s “Don’t You Believe Her”, “I Want to Hear It from You”; Carl Smith’s “Before I Met You”, Faron Young’s “He’s Only Everything” and Connie Smith’s “You’ve Got Me Right Where You Want Me”. The two numbers both singles: “How Blue” and “Somebody Should Leave”. The recording was praised by Billboard: “the finest woman country singer since Kitty Wells”. Rolling Stone honoured her as one of their Top 5 favourite country artists.

Reba’s “My Kind of Country” was No. 13 at the Top Country Albums chart. They had used instruments such as fiddle and pedal steel guitar for traditional country sound.   3. If you’re single, I would hope you remember dancing with an old redneck trucker back in the late 70s, in New Kingston, Penn. I’ll never forget! Love ya too death.   4. I absolutely love the TV show “Reba” no netter my fears, frustrations, or sadness, EVERY NIGHT I watch at least 4 Reba TV shows, puts my mind and heart in a peaceful place. I’d give anything to see and meet Reba in person. I can dream.

  5. I took my son at the age of 15/16 to his first & perhaps only concert (Reba’s ) at UNO in New Orleans La. I’ll never forget that concert I’ve been to many but that was the best concert I ever attended well worth the money Reba came out on a semi circular stairway it opened up and then she was Reba changed backdrops and outfits seven times I was on top of the world she was so beautiful and I just love free but ever since and that was probably in the 80s she’s never come close enough for me to take in another show But I would pay anything and go anywhere now to see her again but My son got killed in a car wreck in North Carolina in 1997 so I know he’s with her wherever she is I’d love to see her again never realizing she is so close to my age 66 (67 Jan 2023)
