Coldplay is a United Kingdom-based rock band. The band released their first extended play album ever in 1998 called Safety, and their first studio album is considered to be Parachutes, which was released in 2000. Since the band’s start, all of their albums and work have been ranking on top charts and earning many awards.
Inception
The band first was formed by Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland during their early days at the University College London, and they called it Pectoralz. Later, Guy Berryman joined them, and they changed the band name to Starfish.
In 1997, they started performing at small clubs in London, Chris as their lead keyboardist and vocalist, Jonny as a guitarist, and Guy as their bassist. Later, Will Champion joined them as their multi-instruments player, and they changed their name to Coldplay, which a student at their university suggested, and his name is Tim Crompton.
Evolution
In 1998, Coldplay released their first extended play album calling it Safety. The album was made of 500 copies only. Later, they released Ode to Deodorant / Brothers and Sisters, and their second extended play album called The Blue Room. They kept on going tours and concerts during that period.
In 2000, Coldplay released their first studio album ever called Parachutes. The album was sold for millions of copies, and eventually Platinum certified. It also was ranked 1st on the United Kingdom Albums sales chart.
After they enjoyed a lot of success with the first album, Coldplay released their second album in 2002 called A Rush of Blood to the Head. The album was also successful, hitting more than 22 million copies and eventually got gold and platinum-certified.
In 2005, Coldplay released the X&Y album, and it was as successful as their previous albums.
Three years later, in 2008, they released their 4th album called Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends. The album was sold for millions of copies but not as much as their other albums, however, it won the 2009 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album.
Coldplay continued releasing successful singles and albums and going on tours and concerts. Their last released studio album is called A Head Full of Dreams, and it has been out since December 4, 2015.
