Teddy Gentry is most well-known for being a bass player and vocalist of the popular country music band, “Alabama”. The band was founded by him and Randy Owen in Fort Payne, Alabama, in 1969. They were soon joined by another cousin, Jeff Cook.
The band was initially known as Wild Country and only changed its name to Alabama in 1977. In 1977 itself, they released the debut single, “I Want to Be with You Tonight”, which captured the 78th position on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. Mark Herndon joined the band in 1979.
A year later, in 1980, the band released “I Wanna Come Over”, which became their first radio hit and was among the Top 40 in the Billboard country chart.
In the same year, they released the song, “Tennessee River” which captured the top position on the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart. “Tennessee River” was among 34 singles that topped the Billboard Hot Country Singles Chart.
